Back Surgery

Handling Injuries That Result in Back Surgery

A back injury resulting from a car accident or workers’ compensation injury can be devastating. In some cases, the only solution to the pain and physical limitations imposed by a back injury is back surgery.

At McCormick Law Office, our knowledgeable attorneys and staff have extensive experience representing clients who have had back surgery and back injuries. We strive to help clients understand their options when pursuing compensation for the injuries and losses they have suffered from a work injury or a motor vehicle accident.

We represent clients who have experienced many different types of back surgery procedures in an attempt to alleviate the pain from which they are suffering. Below are some of the more common types of back surgery:

Back Fusion Procedures

Back or spinal fusion surgery consists of permanently connecting two or more vertebrae together as a solution to back pain. This is a serious surgery that is usually only an option in severe cases.

A Discectomy

Another surgical technique often employed to alleviate back pain is a discectomy. This procedure, performed under general anesthesia, involves the removal of a damaged disc. In some cases, an artificial disc may be inserted.

A Laminectomy

A laminectomy is surgically performed in order to remove the portion of the vertebral bone called the lamina. Though the lamina is rarely diseased or the cause of the back pain, its removal can allow the spinal canal to expand and may alleviate pain. This type of surgery may or may not require the disc be removed as part of the procedure.

When You Suffer From Radiofrequency Nerve Ablation

Radio waves are used to create heat to destroy nerves that supply the facet joints and may be the source of back pain.

Nerve Block Injections

Nerve blocks are injections of anesthetic which can be for therapeutic or diagnostic purposes. Back injury nerve blocks can be administered to the cervical, thoracic or lumbar spine.

Discogram Or Discography

A discogram, or discography, is a diagnostic test to help determine which disc or discs are a source of pain. Dye is injected into the disc under pressure and an X-ray can help identify tears or ruptures in the disc.
