Workers' Compensation Benefits for Lost Income and Medical Bills

Helping Injured Workers With Their Medical Expenses

No matter what your career happens to be, injuries can and often do occur in workplaces. Many people incur injuries that affect their back, neck or head. Other injuries that occur frequently include injuries to the wrists, knees, shoulders and hips. If you have sustained an injury arising out of your occupation, you may be entitled to workers’ compensation benefits for lost income and medical bills. It is best to contact the McCormick Law Office to discuss your injury and options that will help you replace your income.

Medical Treatment And Bills

If you have been injured as a result of your employment, you may be entitled to certain medical expense and health care treatments, including:

  • Medical bills, prescriptions, therapy and tests
  • Traveling expenses driving to and from your doctor appointments
  • Chiropractic
  • Psychological
  • Hospital

In general, coverage for work-related treatments can last for 12 years after one of two things: the last payment of compensation benefits or the date of the accident — whichever occurs later. In addition, your medical expenses, including out-of-pocket expenses and outstanding bills, can be part of your workers’ compensation claim.

Healing Period And Benefits For Lost Wages

When an employee is unable to work and suffers a loss of income, he or she may be entitled to certain workers’ compensation benefits as they heal from their injury. The healing period occurs after the employee experiences the injury and up to the point where the employee reaches a healing plateau as determined by a doctor. In some cases, permanent partial disability (PPD) will be paid after the end of healing.

  • Temporary total disability benefits (TTD): Temporary total disability is paid when an employee is unable to work and suffers from a complete loss of wages. Wisconsin law allows this person to qualify for this benefit if he or she is still within the healing period. This amount is generally set at two-thirds of the employee’s average weekly wage, but there is a maximum limit based on the date of injury
  • Temporary partial disability benefits (TPD): If an employee experiences a wage loss for a limited amount of hours due to a work-related injury and he or she is within the healing period, he or she may be eligible for temporary partial disability benefits.
