Two people were killed late last month when a 35-year-old illegal immigrant ran a stop sign and crashed into their car. The victims were driving in Milwaukee’s south side early in the morning when their lives were taken.
According to police reports, the immigrant was driving a truck too fast and ran a stop sign at the intersection of S. 12th and W. Rogers Streets, causing the car accident that killed two people on Milwaukee’s south side.
Police are still interrogating the SUV driver who reportedly drove his truck into the side of a Toyota Corolla and then fled the scene before police or paramedics could arrive. The Milwaukee County medical examiner’s office has recently released the names and details of the people killed in the hit-and-run crash. The M.E.’s office reported that neither the driver nor the passenger in the Corolla had been wearing seat belts when the accident occurred. Both of the accident victims died at the scene of the crash.
As authorities try to piece together the events of the 2:30 a.m. accident, more information about the Milwaukee crash victims is coming to light. The passenger in the Toyota Corolla was a 35-year-old Mexican police officer. The 26-year-old driver of the car, who was in the direct line of the speeding oncoming truck, died from blunt force injuries.
Before authorities could reach the accident site, reports say the hit-and-run suspect left the scene on foot. Police arrested him in the early afternoon on the same day as the fatal accident. It is not reported whether any witnesses may have seen what happened or whether drugs or alcohol played any part in the crash. Authorities are hoping to learn more through suspect interviews.
