A Wisconsin teenager is being blamed for a car accident that injured three people, one seriously. Reports say the 16-year-old boy stole a car and struck several vehicles in a high-speed chase in an attempt to elude police capture. The auto accident occurred at the end of the chase.
Published reports say the teenager escaped from a vehicle on a Saturday night as the boy was being taken to a group home. The boy ran away on foot and allegedly broke into a Franklin car dealership and located the keys to one of the used cars in the parking lot. The teen reportedly struck two vehicles and ran over a stop sign as he was exiting the lot.
Franklin police report they noticed a vehicle that appeared to be damaged traveling northbound along South 27th Street around 7:30 p.m. Officers say instead of heeding requests to pull over, the driver of the vehicle allegedly hit the gas and tried to flee the scene.
The vehicle made an abrupt eastbound turn onto West Puetz Road and accelerated. One witness estimated the car was traveling as fast as 80 mph when it struck the rear of another vehicle in the 1800 block.
All three people inside the vehicle that was hit suffered injuries. Emergency responders called Flight for Life air transport to take one accident victim to Froedtert Hospital. The patient’s medical condition has not been reported. The two other passengers reportedly sustained non life-threatening injuries.
Police say the 16-year-old driver was taken into custody. At the time of the report, no charges had yet been filed in the accident. The teenager is awaiting legal proceedings in the Milwaukee County Juvenile Center.
