Madison couple dies in fatal motorcycle accident in Texas

by | Jun 14, 2013 | Motorcycle Accidents |

A well-known Madison couple was killed recently in a fatal motorcycle crash. The parents of Eric Studesville, running back coach for the Denver Broncos, were killed when their Honda Goldwing motorcycle was struck head on by an 18-wheeler.

Eric Studesville has been a running back coach for the Denver Broncos for the past four years, and was also an interim head coach for the last part of the 2010 season after head coach, Josh McDaniel, was fired.

The accident occurred in Texas while the coach’s parents were on vacation. A truck pulling an empty grain trailer was heading east when it crossed the centerline into oncoming traffic and collided with the Studesville’s motorcycle. The 67-year-old husband and his 68-year-old wife were both hurled from the motorcycle and landed in the ditch. Both were determined to be deceased. The truck driver escaped the accident uninjured.

The husband was well known for his civic activities and his active role in the professional group, “100 Black Men of Madison.” He was also a teacher and a counselor. The mother of the Broncos’ coach owned a nail salon and was vice president of “Women in Focus,” which is an organization that helps provide scholarships for minority women.

Clearly, the death of this couple is a loss to their community. A service is being held in Madison in honor of the couple’s life. Visitors are instructed to wear colorful clothing signifying the couple’s spirit.

It is unknown whether any charges have been filed against the truck driver, or the reason for his reckless driving; it does appear as though he was at fault in the accident.

In accidents where the negligence of one party causes injury or death to another party or parties, victims or family members have a right to file personal injury or wrongful death suits against the responsible party. The injured victims can be compensated for any medical costs, including future medical costs, and possible loss of income due to their injuries. In the case of death, family members may receive compensation for loss of companionship or consortium, funeral costs and sometimes lost income as well.
