Pedestrian woman dies in hit-and-run accident

On Behalf of | Aug 15, 2013 | Car Accidents |

A 32-year-old woman was run down at the corner of Farwell Avenue and Irving Place on Tuesday. She was crossing the street when an SUV that appeared to be speeding hit her and kept going. The accident occurred around 8:30 p.m.

A witness from a nearby store said that people stepped in to help stop traffic as she was lying in the middle of the road. He says it was only about five minutes before the area was swarming with people, police and cars.

The woman was studying with friends minutes before the accident. She was attending Mount Mary College as a graduate student in art therapy. She worked at a local restaurant and was engaged to a man who also worked there. Friends and family have put up a makeshift memorial outside of the caf? where she worked.

The police located and arrested the hit-and-run driver shortly after the accident. They found the SUV in a parking lot of a condominium after following a lead. The vehicle’s hood was damaged and according to a neighbor, it “actually came off a little bit.” The driver’s name has not been released because he had not yet been charged; however, it appears that he has previous driving offenses, one of which includes a hit-and-run misdemeanor conviction.

It is always sad to lose a loved one, and it appears there are many people grieving for the loss of this young woman who was in the prime of her life.

Losing a loved one not only leaves a family grieving, but often it leaves them with one less income on top of medical and funeral expenses. If you have lost a loved one in an auto accident that was due to the negligence or recklessness of another, you may be able to recover some financial compensation to help in the recovery process. Speak with a personal injury attorney to see what your rights and options are.
