Drug theft ends in fatal crash

On Behalf of | Sep 20, 2013 | Uncategorized |

Losing a loved one is never easy, but sometimes the manner in which his or her life has been taken makes it even harder to bear. When a loved one’s death is caused by the negligence or the bad behavior of someone else, it can create anger as well as grief.

Holding the other party responsible cannot bring your loved one back, but a sense of justification for your loss may give you some closure and help to lesson your grief. Attorneys can provide advice for recovering any economic impact the loss of your loved one may have caused the family, such as expenses from the accident, loss of income, and even compensation for your suffering and pain.

One senseless act in central Wisconsin this week took the life of a 51-year-old man from Lanark. A 23-year-old woman was driving drunk when she crashed a getaway car from a drug theft. The woman, along with a friend, attempted to steal marijuana from a man, who pursued them by jumping on the roof of the car as the woman drove away. The man was flung off the car and hit his head; he died later as a result.

The woman’s alcohol level was approximately twice what the legal limit is in Wisconsin, according to the police. The woman, who was from Portgage, Wisconsin, did not report the accident and fled the scene. She has since been arrested and charged with homicide by drunken driving. A $100,000 bond has been set and she is being held until her expected court date of Sept. 30.

Although the man on the roof was allegedly a drug dealer, this does not diminish the fact that his life was cut short by a senseless act of bad behavior and negligence. His family will no doubt suffer loss from the fatal accident, which may include medical bills, lost wages to the family income, emotional pain and suffering, and loss of companionship.
