Police chase ends in 2-vehicle crash, 1 dead, 2 injured

by | Nov 29, 2013 | Car Accidents |

Car accidents occur every day in Milwaukee. Some are caused by a driver’s inattentiveness or a vehicle’s mechanical error. Others are caused when a driver is impaired by alcohol or drugs. These accidents can cause varying levels of damage and injuries or even death. Everyone involved, as well as the families of the victims, can be deeply affected – even with an accident that appears to be no one’s fault.

That was not the case, however, in a recent two-vehicle accident in Sparta, Wisconsin. The accident occurred when a 31-year-old man lead police on a chase that ended when the man’s vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic.

The crash killed a 34-year-old man from Sparta and injured his passenger, a 37-year-old man from Milwaukee. Also injured was the driver that was trying to escape the police. Both of the injured parties were taken to a hospital in La Crosse by helicopter.

Authorities report that alcohol was a factor in the accident. However, police are still investigating. There have been no reports of why the man was fleeing police or what charges he may face.

For the family of the man who died, this accident was a tragedy. The family has lost their loved one, perhaps their breadwinner and provider. While the charges haven’t been filed against the man who caused the car accident, there are options for the family. They can seek compensation for their loss, including claims for funeral expenses, final medical costs, loss of income and other damages. The decedent’s passenger also has a right to seek compensation for such claims as pain and suffering, lost wages and medical expenses. While this compensation for the victims and their families cannot undo what has happened, it can provide for them as they struggle to move forward.
