Wisconsin Vocational Retraining is a Sound Investment

by | Dec 21, 2015 | Vocational Retraining |

Wisconsin vocational retraining is important to workers’ compensation claims, but also community colleges are key to a strong economy and a stable society.  Vocational colleges or technical schools provide the necessary training for many of the jobs needed to run the economy and the education is provided at a great price.

Vocational schools provide the necessary education and training for our carpenters, plumbers, electricians, HVAC, diesel mechanic, auto repair, CAD, commercial truck driver, welding and fabrication, boilermaker, industrial maintenance, precision manufacturing and machining, machinists and landscape engineering.  These construction industry jobs provide the foundation to a sound economy and a well-balanced society.  The days of learning a trade from father to son began to wane with the advent of the industrial revolution and exist now only in the exception.  The tax dollars we pay supporting Milwaukee Area Technical College are some of the best money we will spend this December.  That is not to say there is no waste or room for efficiency, there certainly is and oversight needs to be constant.

On an individual level, community colleges and tech schools are a great choice for men and women seeking a trade they can work in a lifetime.  The phrase “college is not for everyone” has implied negative connotations that are frankly, ridiculous.  One does not have to go to a four year college to be curious or become educated.  Some of the most interesting and knowledgeable people lack formal classroom education, but are voracious readers, incredibly well informed and people of sound judgment.  The current cost of a four-year college education is not always cost effective.  A college degree is a necessary prerequisite for many careers, and if that is the case, so be it.  But for others, spending $100,000 – $250,000 on a four-year college degree is not fiscally sound.

Community colleges also provide a valuable resource for older, displaced workers and those seeking a change in career.  Community colleges are key to building a stronger and more competitive workforce, providing employers with the highly skilled and well-prepared employees that are ready to make immediate contributions to their field.  Vocational schools and technical colleges should be a well-oiled partnership between government and private sector industry working together to bring educated, motivated workers to the needed jobs.  Two-year degree schools are the backbone of America’s workforce because the jobs they train for jobs, which demand a high degree of technical knowledge, and these are jobs that have to be done for our economy to run smoothly.

McCormick Law Office in Milwaukee, Wisconsin represents injured employees in workers compensation claims, primarily injuries to the head, neck and low back, including claims for Wisconsin vocational retraining benefits.
