Woman killed in Wisconsin motorcycle crash

by | Jul 18, 2017 | Motorcycle Accidents |

A woman was killed in a motorcycle crash last week in Mecan after the bike she was a passenger on left the roadway after swerving to miss a deer. The woman was from Escanaba, according to the Marquette County Sheriff’s Department. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.

The victim, 44, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred on County Road C in Mecan. The victim was the passenger on the motorcycle, which was being driven by a 44-year-old man from Gladstone. The accident occurred just after 4 .m. The driver told investigators that he swerved to avoid a deer, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway.

Both riders were wearing helmets at the time of the crash. The driver also told investigators that he lost control of the motorcycle when he braked, which caused it to slide into a ditch and then travel down an embankment off the side of the road.

Motorcycle safety is paramount when operating a bike on the roads of Wisconsin. All motorcycle riders should have the proper endorsements on their driver’s license in order to operate the vehicle. They should also wear helmets even though they are only required for riders who are under the age of 18 in the state of Wisconsin.

Other safety tips when riding a motorcycle include wearing reflective clothing, knowing how to properly operate the bike, not riding in inclement weather and much more.

Suffering an injury or losing a loved one due to a motorcycle accident is an emotional, stressful and painful time. Never go through such a process alone when an experienced personal injury attorney can handle the entire process in Milwaukee.
