What are risks motorcycle riders face on the roads?

by | Oct 6, 2017 | Motorcycle Accidents |

Riding a motorcycle is thrilling and a bit scary all at once no matter how much experience you have under your belt. Milwaukee has plenty to offer motorcyclists, including incredible architecture, adventure, must-see destinations and much more. So, what are the risks motorcycle riders face on the roads of Wisconsin?

One of the biggest risks motorcyclists face on the roads has to do with visualization. Motorcycles are the smallest vehicles on the roads, which means they can be hidden by other vehicles, by the rain or by anything else on the road. It’s also difficult for some drivers to spot motorcycles simply because they aren’t actively looking for them.

Hazards in the road are a major risk for motorcycle riders. These include animals, potholes, puddles, oil slicks, debris and anything else that can cause the bike to veer off course. Even railroad tracks can pose a danger to motorcyclists. If roads are not cared for properly, it is possible that the city or township could be held liable for any accidents that occur.

Defects in the motorcycle can also be a risk to motorcycle riders. This is not necessarily found on the roads, but these accidents typically occur when the bike is being operated. Defective parts can be difficult to find until it is too late. A defective bike part can lead to claims against the manufacturer of both the bike and the part that failed.

An attorney can provide more information on your legal options if you or a loved one has been injured in a Milwaukee motorcycle accident.
