A 59-year-old Delafield, Wisconsin, resident suffered serious injuries when his GMC pickup truck was crashed into by a tractor-trailer just before midnight on Monday, January 15, in Waukesha County.
The injured driver was reportedly driving westbound along I-94 in the direction of Highway 83 shortly before his vehicle stalled out in the center of the roadway. It’s soon thereafter that the driver of a BMW pulled over on the side of the road in an effort to see if he could offer the GMC’s driver some assistance.
It wasn’t long after the BMW driver got out of his car to help the owner of the GMC that the good samaritan’s vehicle was crashed into by a Peterbilt tractor-trailer.
Soon thereafter, a Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson says that another tractor-trailer suddenly appeared behind the two vehicles. The trucker operating that semi collided with the pickup’s driver, critically injuring him.
Emergency responders arrived at the crash scene within moments of those two crashes. They first transported the badly injured GMC driver to Aurora Summit Hospital. It’s unclear what type of injuries he was suffering from or what his prognosis is.
All of the other motorists were transported to area hospitals complaining of relatively minor injuries.
County police officials kept the interstate closed for hours that night as they worked alongside Wisconsin State Patrol to investigate the crash. It’s unclear if any charges will be filed against either one of the truck drivers for their involvement in the crash.
