How do I get back into motorcycle riding after a hiatus?

by | Jan 30, 2018 | Motorcycle Accidents |

For many people, riding a motorcycle is like riding a bike. They can take months to years off from doing so, get back on and have no trouble picking up right where they left off in the past. For others, getting back on a motorcycle for the first time in years can be scary, especially if they are older. It can also be difficult for some if they aren’t quite sure how to balance, care for the bike or protect themselves on the road.

Before you get back on your bike you should have a medical evaluation. This will help determine if your eyesight is still up to par, if your hearing is still in good shape and if your reflexes can handle the rigors of operating a motorcycle.

If your family physician says you are healthy enough to ride, your next step is to ensure that your driver’s license is active. If it has expired, you will need to renew the license before you get back on your bike.

Consider taking a refresher course prior to hitting the open road. A refresher course will help you get comfortable again with the motorcycle, the road, the laws and how to operate the bike in dangerous situations.

Talk to experienced riders who have never given up riding and talk to those who took a hiatus and got back into riding. These conversations can help you get back into the swing of things.

If you’ve returned to motorcycle riding and have been involved in a motorcycle accident in Milwaukee, it’s best that you protect your rights immediately. You will want to speak with an experienced personal injury attorney as soon as possible to begin moving your case forward.
