Post-concussion syndrome can follow a workplace accident

by | Aug 15, 2019 | Workers' Compensation |

If you suffer a concussion as the result of a workplace slip-and-fall accident, it’s critical to follow the guidance of your medical team. Doing so increases the likelihood of making a fast and full recovery.

If you suffer a concussion, then post-concussion syndrome is possible. This complex disorder is associated with a variety of symptoms that have the potential to last for several months after the initial injury.

The most common symptoms of post-concussion syndrome include:

  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Anxiety
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Insomnia
  • Memory loss
  • Light sensitivity
  • Noise sensitivity

If your symptoms don’t subside or they recur, it’s essential to consult with your doctor. They can run additional tests to determine if there’s something else going on. Even more importantly, your doctor can provide you with a treatment plan to help overcome post-concussion syndrome.

No one is sure of the cause of post-concussion syndrome, but it is widely believe to be related to structural damage to the brain or psychological factors associated with the injury.

If you’re suffering from post-concussion syndrome, don’t attempt to fight through it. Doing so will only worsen your symptoms, thus making it difficult to recover.

If your doctor suggests additional time away from work, discuss this with your employer. This is also a good time to look into extending your workers’ compensation benefits (or applying for the first time).

In the event of a workers’ compensation denial, learn more about the appeals process and how you can obtain the money you deserve in the near future. An experienced attorney can provide valuable guidance.
