1 injured, 1 killed in cement truck crash at worksite

When you’re working, there is always a risk that you could be involved in an accident of some kind. Unfortunately, those injuries could be fatal in some cases or life-altering and disabling in others.

Take, for example, this terrible case in which one worker was killed and another was seriously hurt after being run over by a cement truck. According to the report from late September, the incident happened at around 8:00 a.m., when a cement truck backed up and collided with two workers who were doing their jobs nearby on Highway 11.

The report indicated that a 39-year-old woman passed away as a result of the crash. The other worker, a 28-year-old man, did survive but was in critical condition when the emergency medical team arrived.

Incidents like this one don’t have to happen. These types of accidents often happen when there is a miscommunication, a worker is too tired, there are mechanical failures or other mistakes are made.

It’s important for all workers on any worksite to know where all others are, especially if they are backing up a vehicle or maneuvering heavy equipment in an area where others are working. It’s also vital for those who are on a worksite to know when other large equipment or vehicles will be moving in the space, so they can be aware and move out of the way.

As a worker, if you’re left with serious injuries, you may be able to pursue workers’ compensation to get the medical care and financial support that you need. On the other hand, if you’re the loved one of someone who has been killed, it may be in your best interests to speak with your attorney about seeking survivor benefits or death benefits from the employer.
