Reckless driving crash leads to 3 deaths, serious injuries and charges

On Behalf of | Nov 9, 2020 | Wrongful Death |

When someone’s reckless driving results in the death of someone you love, you may want to do all you can to make them pay for it. It’s up to the authorities to decide if criminal charges will be imposed against a reckless or negligent driver, but you may still have a right to pursue a wrongful death claim.

Sometimes, those who drive dangerously will be charged for causing the deaths of others. Take for example this case in Milwaukee. According to a Nov. 5 report, a man in Milwaukee is now facing seven felony charges for his part in a collision that left three women deceased.

The 36-year-old man was traveling in a 30 mph zone but speeding at 87 mph when he collided with the second vehicle. Three women between 18 and 23 years of age who were passengers inside that second vehicle were killed, and the vehicle’s driver suffered serious injuries, as well.

The man who caused the crash was also injured and had to be hospitalized. He claimed to police that he was traveling at 42 mph and that he had passed through a yellow light prior to the collision. Witnesses at the scene, however, did not seem to agree with that testimony. They claimed that the man was potentially racing another vehicle and that the second vehicle did brake at the intersection. The negligent driver was initially charged with running the light, but now faces three counts of second-degree reckless homicide

It’s not yet clear what will happen in this case, but it is a good example of how one person’s reckless actions can negatively affect others — and even destroy lives. If you’re injured in a crash or a loved one is killed, remember that you may have a right to a civil claim. An attorney can show you how.
