Fewer drivers hasn’t amounted to fewer deaths in Wisconsin

On Behalf of | Dec 17, 2020 | Automobile Accident |

Sadly, car crashes sometimes result in fatalities. The goal of the Department of Transportation and others who work in a place of authority is to reduce the number of crashes and to minimize the risk of fatalities occurring.

Unfortunately, Wisconsin’s DOT has said that alcohol-related deaths have gone up by around 50% despite the fact that driving is down around 26.3%.

Fewer drivers hasn’t amounted to fewer deaths

Sadly, fewer drivers being on the road hasn’t amounted to fewer deaths. Wisconsin’s DOT has estimated that speeding deaths have increased by 51.8% and that drug-involved crashes have gone up by around 45.8%. The DOT also believes that around 24.7% of people who were killed when involved in a crash were not wearing a seat belt at the time.

Deaths are just part of the equation

Unfortunately, deaths are just part of the equation, and they don’t account for every injury or issue caused by a crash. For every person who’s injured in a crash, there are likely dozens of others who have been hurt in crashes of their own. These people may be unable to return to work or could see a major change in how they’re able to interact in their own lives. Some may end up with disabilities or lasting complications.

If you’re involved in a traffic accident, remember that you need to seek medical support. After you’re stable, it’s a good idea to look into your legal options. Our website has more information about what you should do if you’ve been involved in a crash with another driver. You deserve support during this trying time in your life.
