Winter weather creates dangerous driving conditions

On Behalf of | Mar 3, 2021 | Automobile Accident |

Milwaukee residents know how to drive in icy and snowy conditions. But it only takes a slight miscalculation to cause a deadly, high-speed accident on an interstate or surface street.

Two recent incidents where drivers plunged off elevated stretches of highway miraculously ended without fatalities to either the drivers or others on the road.

I-94 was the scene of the first accident

The first crash occurred on Saturday, Feb. 6, west of Milwaukee when a pickup truck driver struck a snowbank on the ramp to Interstate 94, lost control and plunged 70 feet over the railing to the highway below. Fortunately, the truck did not land on any vehicles below and the driver survived with injuries. Information released by authorities indicates he was traveling at 77 mph in a 55 mph zone at the time of the wreck.

The second incident happened only days later

Valentine’s Day was not a good day for one driver whose car plunged off the high ramp for the Marquette interchange and to the ground below. Again, the vehicle did not strike another car and the driver also survived what could easily have been a fatal accident. Media reports indicate that she suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was arrested on OWI charges.

These accidents illustrate the considerable dangers drivers face

These two recent wrecks indicate the great danger drivers present when speeding and driving while intoxicated. But wintry weather conditions can imperil even sober and safe drivers and those they encounter on icy and snow-covered roads. If you suffer injuries in an accident with an at-fault driver here in Milwaukee, you may need to file a claim for damages in order to make things right.
